The Business Development Lead's primary responsibility will be to develop opportunities with new customers and expand opportunities with existing customers through integrated marketing and sales effort with operating groups. We are looking for someone with experience in utility/electrical/electrical construction or a related industry. You'll need the ability to recognize market needs, and the initiative to develop winning strategies within our marketing, business development, and operations teams. This role requires strength in building relationships and effective communications with external clients and partners as well as internal managers and construction-related business development roles or equivalent.

Essential Functions

• Understand customers’ needs and strategically plan business opportunities 
• Collaborate and effectively communicate with operational leaders to advance opportunities 
• Establish initial contact with appropriate decision makers within our target client base 
• Identify prospects where the company has a competitive advantage 
• Develop and implement strategies to position the company as the recommended and preferred contractor in the construction industry, specifically to electrical utilities and independent power producers 
• Coordinate prequalification and proposal efforts with targeted customers and partners 
• Maintain a database to record contacts, document opportunities, and manage progress 
• Research and analyze national market activity, emerging opportunities, and geographical trends 
• Regular and predictable attendance 
• Other duties as assigned 
• Essential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company-designated office or field location. 50% or travel to the Western half of the U.S. required. 
• Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and other industry-specific professional and ethical standards, if applicable 

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or similar discipline; a combination of education and experience considered in lieu of degree.  
• 5+ years of business development experience within an electrical, engineering, construction, power utility, or related field is required.
• Prior experience working with and ability to connect with business leaders, owners, and decision-makers is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of construction markets and business sectors 
• Ability to evaluate and convey complex information to others in an effective manner through persuasive communication and negotiation skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with outstanding interpersonal facilitation and negotiation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to gain support and establish working relationships
• Ability to lead the sales effort in highly professional proposals and presentations 
• Strong marketing skills with the ability to sell and deliver 
• Proven ability to make independent decisions 
• Ability to thrive in a competitive and dynamic environment 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience ($72,200-$108,100) and weekly pay via direct deposit.  Compensation may vary depending on where the position is located. Salary range shown is for Thornton, CO). Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
