Job Description

Our Safety Engineers work to ensure that all employees uphold the core value of safety by developing, implementing, administering and maintaining safety-related policies, procedures, and programs. Safety Engineers work closely with field staff, all levels of management, and personnel from external organizations during all phases of construction; commitment to developing positive professional relationships is required. This is a location-based position encompassing work-sites throughout the assigned project area and requires up to 70% travel.


Founded in 1977, Great Southwestern Construction, Inc., a subsidiary of MYR Group Inc, started as a small general contractor performing high voltage utility work in Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. Today, Great Southwestern has the ability to perform high voltage construction and renewable energy construction throughout the country.  Areas of expertise include transmission line construction, substation construction, distribution construction, and renewable energy projects

Essential Functions: 

  • Act as a liaison between management, outside local safety agencies, and insurance carriers.
  • Coordinate with district operation personnel to establish safety standards
  • Create a system for communicating safety and health issues to include:
    • General employee/department safety meetings.
    • Formal safety training for safe work practices.
    • Posting of various safety communications.
    • Development of a safety suggestion system.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and provide technical support for district safety committees.
  • Coordinate and conduct periodic job site visits of all crews to identify unsafe work conditions and practices.
  • Document and communicate site visit information.
  • Coordinate other supplemental inspections whenever new processes, equipment, substances, or previously unrecognized hazards are found to be present.
  • Verify that corrective measures are completed, including recommendations of the safety committee, insurance carrier, and/or other safety consultant.
  • Review and complete corrective actions for all injury and illness investigation reports.
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable

Job Requirements


  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with electrical transmission and distribution line construction projects
  • Journeyman Lineman experience working with (overhead) transmission and distribution line construction highly preferred
  • Safety or related technical undergraduate degree (such as CSP)
  • Safety related credentials (e.g., OSHA 501, OTI certifications, etc.) 


  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge of subject matter
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA and other industry related safety regulations
  • Attentiveness to detail
  • Organizational skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Problem management skills

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary commensurate with experience with weekly pay. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. 
  • Two days per week remote work option for non-field roles depending on position and performance.
