Job Description

Great Southwestern Construction, Inc., a subsidiary of MYR Group Inc., one of the oldest and largest electrical contractors in the country, is looking for Groundman for various electrical projects within substation construction. Promotion opportunities may be available.  Travel is required.

Duties:

  • Work safely while assisting in new construction and various tasks such as demolition, site preparation, excavating, backfilling and landscaping, trenching, pole setting, cable labeling, and other substation related tasks such as construction clean-up. 

  • Assist with installing transformer and transformer banks, bus structures and switchgear, lines (underground/overhead), ground grid,control buildings,, and other related substation material tasks

  • Will work with man baskets, skid steers, shovels, compactors, back hoes and other industry equipment, 

  • Frequently work around energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others

  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Able to learn job specific procedures including: identifying and using different types of materials used in line work, safety procedures, and installation procedures

  • Must be able to handle various tools as well as proper maintenance of tools

  • Must have a Commercial Driver's License or the ability to obtain one

  • Must be able to work outside frequently in inclement weather, to include heat, cold, rain and snow

  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs, as well as working at slightly elevated heights (up to 24 ft, occasionally may go up to 80ft) and/or confined spaces

  • Willing to work over-time and be able to work extended periods of time in various jobsite locations when required

  • Must be able to read blueprints or have the ability to learn

  • Available for travel as project requires

  • Completion of a Journeyman Lineman college program highly preferred but not mandatory

  • Seeking candidates who are team oriented, self motivated, and customer oriented
