Established in 1891, The L.E. Myers Co. (L.E. Myers), the oldest MYR Group subsidiary, is recognized as a premier electrical contractor of large utility construction projects across the nation. Lewis E. Myers founded the company in Chicago with a vision of connecting villages and towns to major cities along railroad lines in the Midwest. In the 1950’s L.E. Myers constructed one of the first 345kV transmission lines built in this country, for Ohio Valley Electric Corporation.

L.E. Myers has completed hundreds of transmission and substation projects throughout the Midwest, East and Southeast ranging from 34.5kV through 765kV; and has experience installing a variety of structures ranging from 60’ wood poles up to 400’ steel lattice towers. L.E. Myers has performed all types of overhead and underground distribution, ranging from new developments to urban repair and rebuild projects; and possesses resources to perform storm and emergency restoration work throughout the nation.

Overview:

Project Engineer duties include the support of functions related to construction management on electrical transmission, distribution, and substation construction. Candidate must be able to successfully assist with preparation of plans and applicable specifications and must be able to interface with, and provide general project support to, senior project professionals.

Duties

  • Construction monitoring tasks including the management, interpretation, and execution of applicable construction drawings, contracts, purchase orders, subcontracts, and change orders throughout the entire lifespan of large capital construction projects
  • Assist with the review of plans and specifications and prepare a checklist of contract features which require periodic attention and list items the sub-contractor must submit for approval prior to the start of the work
  • Assist with cost estimates and quantity takeoffs as needed
  • Management and maintenance of records and construction documents
  • Assist with preparing statements of work, submittals, change management, and necessary daily and weekly reporting
  • Interface with many different parties and gather notes efficiently
  • Promote safety in construction operations and ensure compliance with safety requirements
  • Inspect equipment, material, workmanship, and finished construction
  • Monitor progress of work in the field for both internally performed work and subcontractors
  • Track and document out of scope work
  • Observe work in progress to ensure that procedures are followed, and materials used conform to specifications
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable

 

Job Requirements

Project Engineer Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering required. Equivalent work experience in lieu of education is acceptable.
  • 0-5 years of experience in the construction operations of electrical transmission, distribution, and substation projects.
  • Ability to interact with the craft to advance continuous improvements and lean processes
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, with advanced knowledge of Excel preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with Primavera P6 preferred
  • Possess strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with the ability to think practically while remaining detail-oriented
