Job Description

Since 1912, Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc. has provided comprehensive electrical construction services to clients throughout the western U.S. The Safety Manager will work within Sturgeon Electric’s transmission and distribution (T&D) construction division which provides a full-range of capabilities related to transmission, distribution and substation construction.


This Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring employee adherence to company safety policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Manage on-going safety program including building a vibrant on site safety culture which includes daily Bend and Stretch and collaboration with the craft empowering them to own the safety program for their project
  • Verify fieldwork compliance with federal, state and local regulations, company policy, and industry best practices
  • Audit, mentor and provide meaningful feedback, leadership, and guidance to safety engineers
  • Coordinate cross-training and conduct training as necessary
  • Embrace the utilization of continuous improvement practices to improve safety practices and procedures
  • Conduct and report on advance notice and no-notice inspections, surveys, and evaluations
  • Receive, review, and participate with the development of accident briefs, safety-related publications, bulletins, and reports
  • Provide progress reports on safety activities, safety reports, and safety studies
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable
    The essential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company designated office or field location.

Job Requirements

Principal Skills/Qualifications

  • Experience in construction of T & D (transmission and distribution)
  • Experience in Job Hazards and Safety Analysis within T & D (transmission and distribution)
  • Management experience within a safety leadership role
  • Experience with OSHA record keeping, reporting and Method of Procedure (MOP) writing
  • Experience in job hazard & safety analysis within the Utility Scale Solar Power Plant construction industry
  • OSHA 10, 30, and 500 (Train the Trainer) Certified
  • Basic computer and typing skills
  • Knowledge of OSP (OSHA Strategic Partnership)
  • Experience with Risk Management
  • Effective communicator and have the ability and desire to engage and interact with the craft
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Self-starter and team player
  • Positive attitude
